Why is it that people have to keep up with the Jones family?
What makes us buy things that we don’t need, with money that we don’t have to impress people we don’t like?
Borrowing too much to live in a house that you can’t afford, leasing a European car to ‘look the part’ and sending the kids to private schools with expensive fees is an expensive way to live life and often comes with a far higher price tag than just the repayments. Stressing about making ends meet puts enormous pressure on marriages, with money issues being the number one reason for divorce.
And, when this occurs and all the debt is removed there is often a big price to pay for keeping up appearances because the ‘Balance Sheet’ is often left looking pretty scant.
That Jones family has a lot to answer for.
